2019 RECIPIENT
INTERNATIONAL ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
The 20th International Achievement Award (IAA) is granted to Mr. Warren Bares, President of J. Maxime Roy, Inc. While Mr. Bares and the company
J. Maxime Roy promote a variety of insurance products that support international trade, it is in particular his role as a broker for the Export
Import Bank of the United States which has brought significant value to our local economy.
J. Maxime Roy, Inc. is a brokerage company established in 1932 and headquartered in Lafayette. It specializes in export credit insurance
which helps American businesses grow by enabling them to leverage foreign receivables as collateral for capital for financial expansion.
Warren has a BS in Finance from University of Southwestern Louisiana, now University of Louisiana at Lafayette. He is a member of the
Louisiana District Export Council and a member of the International Trade Development Group.
J. Maxime Roy, Inc. was named Export-Import (EXIM) Bank Broker of the Year for 2004 and 2018. Over the past five years, J. Maxime Roy, Inc. has
consistently been among the top 12 EXIM bank brokers nationwide measured by both authorization amounts and count. In this period, J. Maxime
Roy, Inc. brokered more than $425 million in EXIM bank insurance authorizations for exporters across Lafayette Parish and the surrounding area.
EXIM Bank is an independent and self-sustaining federal agency that promotes and supports American jobs by providing export credit to overseas
purchasers of U.S. exports. EXIM Bank assists the United States in leveling the global playing field for U.S. exporters when they compete against
foreign companies that receive support from their own national export credit agencies. EXIM bank also contributes to U.S. economic growth by
supporting more than a million jobs, especially those of thousands of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). EXIM Bank does not rely on
taxpayer funding. In fact, since 2000, it has actually provided $14.6 billion to the U.S. Treasury after paying for all of its own
administrative and program expenses.
In the words of President Donald J. Trump regarding the 2020 budget: “The Budget supports a fully functioning Export-Import Bank (ExIm) to
implement reforms and help American exporters compete in an increasingly unfair global marketplace. The Budget ensures ExIm would be able
to help correct market failures, especially by supporting small businesses, sectors with national security importance, and American
companies with foreign-government supported competitors.”
The Lafayette International Center has a long-standing relationship with Mr. Bares and has seen firsthand what an important asset their services have
been to exporters in our community. Warren has continually distinguished himself among EXIM bank’s top brokers nationwide in terms of
volume of business as well as level of customer service. He is of a caliber that has definitely put Lafayette in league with the largest
export markets in the country. The International Center has been honored to work with Warren Bares in promoting EXIM bank and the local
export-oriented market in general and look forward to continued cooperation.
